Guidance for your 'Virtual' Christmas Session.

Above, you will find the three main images that I aim to create for you and your children.

As you'll see from the images, the three images are best created with similar poses to the ones shown, but lighting the images of your child is the key.

You will need:

  • a white backdrop to get the best results. This can be a white wall, a white sheet or blanket, a door, a curtain - anything that you can get a shot of your child in front of, and large enough that they can stand up.  Ideally, if you are using a sheet or blanket, the best results are achieved if the child can stand full height on the white background as well.

  • your camera - iphone 6 onwards and android phones under 5 years old will provide an image clear enough to work with

  • daylight - this is essential as the images are set outside and the light tone and shading need to match as much as possible. artificial light sources will give very different results.

Below is a diagram of the best way to set up the shots...

The best place to find your light source is a window, or more preferable, a floor to ceiling light source like a doorway.  You can achieve great results using your front/back door way or even a garage so long as there isn't a shadow cast over where your child will stand/sit.

The following video should give you an idea of the type of thing I need you to try and capture, but I'll always work with whatever you can send me.

The minimum I need to create the above shots are:

  • an image of the child standing full height facing the camera.

  • an image facing the camera with the child's left hand held out - as if touching the reindeer

  • an image with the child sitting down, feet to the front or side is fine - for this, it's best to place a stool or cushion under whatever fabric you are using, or if using a solid background, please try to cover any brightly coloured chairs.

  • a close up of the child's face stright on.

Once you have captured the images of your child/children, please email me the images, or if you manage to take a few, please let me know and I'll provide you a link to upload your images to my secure drive. Please can I ask that you do not send images via google drive (unless you pay for a subscription) or via Whatsapp as, in both of these instances the image size and quality is compressed.  I need the full size, full resolution images please.

After that, I'll set about creating some truly special images and will endeavor to get them back to you as soon as possible, all while we've adhered to all the lock down regulations and everyone has stayed as safe as possible.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me on my email which you can do here.
